Useful Blogs – Making Money Online

on May 12th, 2007

John Chow runs what is possibly the best known blog with information that helps you to make money online. It’s an inspiring read for budding internet entrepreneurs especially his regular updates on the earnings of his blog. Here’s what he says about his blog:

I started John Chow dot Com almost a year and half ago. The intention was never to make money online from it. For the first nine months of the blog’s life, there was not one piece of advertising on it. I used the blog as my personal journal to do miscellaneous ramblings about stuff that I find interesting. One of those interesting topics happens to be making money on the Internet so an idea came to use this blog as a case study to show just how much money one can make by blogging.

Not bad considering he made $11,702.66 in April 2007, which is a massive growth from $352.94 in September 2006! The great thing about his blog however is the fact that he breaks down the revenue by source so you can see what works on his blog.

He has also listed his top keywords in this post which has a great lesson for anyone trying to SEO a site (and a lesson that I’ve been trying to explain to customers for years):

The top 10 keywords accounts for 23% of all searches. A nice number indeed but it still means that 77% of searches come from the long tail.

Proof positive that chasing the hard to get one and two keyword phrases is not the be all and end all of traffic generation.

Last but not least he regularly posts on how to achieve the level of success he has. The post The Seven Habits of Highly Successful Bloggers being a prime example – I certainly hope I’m developing those habits!

At the moment he is offering to link to your blog if you review his blog. So add it to your RSS feed list and get reviewing!

Hi, I found yr blog via John Chow, i took art in batch 66, i got some traffic but not as much as i expected!
Currently i am in the process of building links and have came up with my own quick and easy solution for exchanging links. It works purely for PR and Technorati ratings thats why i have omitted anchor text.
Below is a link to the post and how it works if your interested in swapping links

    Andy,

Thanks but I’d rather focus on links for traffic (as well as SEO) and I don’t see how that would help.

    Hi John,

Thank you for the comments you left on my blog. I’m taking a look round your website and I’m finding it a very interesting read.

I’ve been referred to John Chow’s website by quite a few friends but haven’t actually got around to browsing it yet. I’m halfway through reading his ebook and have found it to be packed with useful info.

Talking of making money online, I’ve recently written a short article describing a method of doubling £15 to £30 in 30 minutes that you or your visitors may be interested in.

    Kind regards,

    Arkad

    Arkad,

I read that post on your blog earlier today it’s interesting – though I’d prefer a method that was more repeatable.
