Blogging is fun, you can make money and friends and all you have to do is regularly post hints, tips, news, opinions and ideas. It sounds easy and while it is relatively easy to make a couple of hundred dollars a month it’s not an easy route to riches – though it can be done just take a look at the Millionaire Bloggers Hall Of Fame for an idea as to the earning potential of dedicated blogging.

The best thing about blogging is that it has the potential to create a passive income for the future (less so if you blog reviews of products that rapidly go out of date) more so if you blog on a topic such as business planning, entrepreneurship, making money, losing weight etc.

The downside however is that you’ll need to be able to consistently add good quality posts, ideally several times a day, even then it can take months before the site starts generating a reasonable return on your time.

To get started you need a minimum investment, just enough to cover registering a domain and buying some hosting (make sure the hosting supports Wordpress – Heart Internet offer such hosting). Once you have a domain name and some hosting the rest is down to the time and effort you chose to dedicate to your blog.

My top tip for success would be to choose a subject that you are passionate about and to try to find as many related blogs as possible to see how they approach the topic then jump in and comment on their posts, link to them and get writing.
