Life Coaching

on May 27th, 2007

A Life Coach is someone who will help you set clear goals for achieving the life you want. Having helped you to identify these goals, a life coach will help you to prioritise them and will enable you to believe that they really are achievable.

Life coaching in the UK is not currently regulated, there are no minimum qualifications needed to practice as a life coach. That said qualifications will increase your credibility and improve your coaching skills.

You can work as a life coach from home and you don’t even need to meet your customers face to face as a lot of coaching is done remotely over the phone. The money is quite reasonable too, as according to the Association for Coaching typical rates for personal coaching are £50 to £75 per session hour and £125 – £250 per hour in a business context.

The lack of minimum academic standards for life coach training in the UK also means that you will need to do your own research into evaluating which life coaching course is right for you and provides value for money. Certainly while researching this post I struggled to work out which courses were likely to be worthwhile.

I have been through a life coaching session and it helped me tremendously! I would recommend it if you have the funds.

I would suggest checking out the International Coaching Federation site http://www.coachfederation.org for information about Life Coaching & suggestions on good training providers. They are swiftly becoming the de facto World Governing Body.
I trained with CTI, http://www.coaching.courses.com – established & reputable training provider in the UK, not the cheapest, but superb comprehensive training.

PS. I am a Coach and I recieve £75 per 30 minute session (this is quite typical for a quality coach)
