Episode Two of Peter Jones Tycoon aired last night and if I’m honest it was no better than episode one. I’m really not sure if this program deserves to be called Tycoon, they are treated, and behave more like Peter Jones’ employees and not particularly good ones at that.
I’m hardly suprised that Peter Jones’ leadership skills have been called into question by the European Leadership Programme, Ashley Ward says:
“This new TV show is a bad example of the quality of support this country provides new businesses. The entrepreneurs in the show admitted going to pieces and performing below their best abilities because of intimidation from Peter Jones.”
Given we’ve now seen both Elizabeth and Lauren crying on the show (which the editors should perhaps have had then sense to cut) there could be something to what Ward says. Ward went on to say:
“Peter Jones’ style of so-called support is not representative of angel investors or venture capital firms which generally actively help entrepreneurs become successful. “
I find it suprising that there seems to be so little good advice coming from Peter Jones on the show given that Peter Jones’ acompanying book Tycoon: How to Be REALLY Rich is full of good advice.
For example the pursuit of the exclusive deal for the helicopters, there seemed to be little analysis of the tradeoffs, sure he got an exclusive deal without paying £10,000 but he had to agree to a higher monthly minimum order, but how much higher we didn’t hear. The higher minimum order could well be a much worse deal for the business.
I think he was especially harsh on Lauren Pope, come on give the girl a break, given her level of exeprience it’s a common mistake. Besides as an investor and mentor in the business shouldn’t he be coaching her rather than setting her up to fail?
Considering the above it’s not really a suprise that Tycoon flopped in the ratings.
