I’ve finally found time to watch and write about Episode Three of Peter Jones’ Tycoon (it’s amazing how long it takes to watch anything when you’ve got a new baby to attend to). Sadly cutting the length down to 30 minutes to fit in the new Monday evening slot has just about removed all the business related content.
Much like with episode two of Tycoon I found myself wondering about Peter Jones’ advice, why was Lauren being advised to reject Philip Green’s offer to stock them in the Oxford Circus Top Shop on risk? Sure it’s not an ideal situation – much better to have sold him several thousand pounds worth of stock and been cashing his cheque, but if that’s the only deal on the table then better to get the credibility it will bring making it easier to sell the stock to other retailers. Oh and why is Lauren saying “he won’t let me” is it her business or is she just an employee of Peter Jones?
I wasn’t surprised to see Elizabeth Hackford go I’m not convinced she could break into that market with the budget available and I think she’d have been better off starting a smaller business first to find out if being an entrepreneur is really for her.
Justin Chieffo seemed to be on a mini power trip, I think he handled things with Hackford rather badly even allowing for the fact it was probably edited to create the maximum drama he needs to work on his leadership/people skills.
We just didn’t see much of the Sod Gardening ladies other than a mention that they might be a bit homesick and they met Harrods boss Mohamed Al-Fayed and he was going to take some stock.

This blog is about business opportunities and ideas that I spot, think of or hear about and think are useful and interesting. It is intended to provide ideas and inspriation for you to help you find the right business idea for you to then grow it into a successful business.

[...] has produced an extremely rushed feel to the whole thing. John over on Business Ideas pretty much sums it all up. I also must congratulate him on his new baby! I am also getting round to writing a guest article [...]
The only thing that irritates me is the fact that most of the businesses are obvious turkeys. Would Philip Green really have given the time of day to A.N. Other if there hadn’t been a tv camera standing behind them.
If only I applied to get on the show
Seriously… does the world need another vodka drink/eco bag/hair extension.
BTW. Nice blog. Subscribed
I agree the businesses aren’t strong but even so it would be nice to see some actual in depth business content in the show.
