Does Your Business Donate To Charity?

on August 29th, 2007

In his post are you ethical Ozzy says:

When I asked the question on UK Business Forums one person replied saying he felt companies that did make a thing about their corporate responsibility are most likely going to be too expensive.

He goes on to say:

shopping in M&S at the weekend when I say a TV in the childrens clothes department advertising that they donate 5% of the purchase price on all school uniforms sold to Save the Children.

Unfortunately some customers will assume that you’ve put up the price by 5% to cover the cost of the donation so they may well shop elsewhere looking for a cheaper price. There’s another reason you may loose customers though, some will not want to support the charities that you do and may prefer to choose which charities they give their money to.

Your business could however benefit from this, by taking the opportunity to offer customers a choice of several charities to which their donation could go, and even making the donation optional too. Especially easy if you’re primarily a web based business like Ozzy’s is.

Some airlines have extended this concept allowing customers to optionally pay more to offset the carbon produced by their flight.
