The Art Of Creative Thinking claims to explain how to be innovative and develop great ideas by providing clear practical guidelines for developing your ability as a creative thinker. John Adair uses examples and quotes from famous writers, poets, entrepreneurs and scientists to illustrate his points. I’m sure some readers will be surprised at the number of scientists that are quoted in the book – it’s not often (unfortunately) that we consider them to be creative people.
John Adair is acknowledged internationally as an authority on leadership. As the world’s first Professor of Leadership Studies, he advises many organizations in business, government, education, health and the voluntary sector. He is a regular public speaker. China has made him its first Honorary Professor of Leadership. He is the author of over 50 books and articles, now in 25 languages, on leadership and management development, including Not Bosses But Leaders and The Inspirational Leader.
If you don’t consider yourself a creative person and you want to become more creative then this book explains how. It’s short, accessible and easy to read, in fact I only picked it up for a quick skim last night and I’ve now read it cover to cover which probably took me less than two hours. It was an enjoyable read and I will be passing it on to friends and family the next time they claim that they’re not creative.
In short, there’s nothing new or revolutionary that will surprise creative people but if you’re keen to become more creative it will help you achieve that goal. You’ll also learn the origin of the phrase “Thinking outside the box“.
