Hamel argues that organisations need bold management innovation now more than ever. The current management model – centred on control and efficiency – no longer suffices in today’s world, where innovation and creativity drive business success. Using as examples of innovative management designed to encourage innovation Hamel cites examples from Whole Foods Market, W.L. Gore (the makers of Gore-Tex etc), and Google Hamel explores the options for owners and managers looking for ways to make their businesses more innovative.
Gary Hamel is Visiting Professor of Strategic and International Management at the London Business School; co-founder of the consulting firm Strategos and director of the Management Innovation Lab. He’s also written several other management books and numerous articles on business and management.
It’s a highly accessible book which is very easy to read. Recommended reading for anyone planning to start or managing a business that will thrive on innovation.
