I thought I’d follow my post on how to start an Internet business with a guide on how to start a blogging business. For those that don’t know a blog is a site on which articles are posted, usually in reverse date order and readers are encouraged to post comments. This site, Business Opportunities and Ideas is a blog.

So How Do You Make Money Blogging?

As a blog is rather like an online version of a newspaper or magazine the business model is much the same. You produce content (news, articles and tutorials) that people will be interested in reading and you sell advertising on those articles. Alternately you can advertise and sell your own products.

So How Do I Start Blogging?

First you need to pick a topic for your blog. In my case I choose Business Opportunities / Business Ideas as it’s a topic that interest me. I suggest you choose a topic that interests you, so if you’re into football write about that, if you’re a Manchester United fan blog about Manchester United, if you’re into rock guitar then blog about that. You get the idea, choose a topic your passionate about and know something about.

When it comes to building your blog the simplest way to get started is to sign up for a free account with Blogger which provides the hosting and blogging software for a blog. Then open a Google Adsense account to sell advertising on your blog.

Once you’ve setup your blog and written a few articles you’ll need to begin promoting your blog. The simplest way to get started is to find other blogs on similar topics and to post comments (make sure they are sensible comments that add value to the discussion) on those blogs. Once you are more established you can start to learn about search engine optimisation and how it can help you increase your Google ranking.

After that you need to focus on writing good content on a regular basis. Like many businesses starting a successful blogging business is more about consistent effort that clever short cuts.
