This week I’ve been looking at goal setting, reviewed the ProBlogger book and started to update my list of the Top 100 Business blogs (suggestions welcome). In the Ask John series this week I answered a question about profitable business ideas.

• Bill Taylor writes Why Zappos Pays New Employees to Quit—And You Should Too on the Harvard Business Press Discussion Leaders blog, looking at what organisations can learn from Zappos which pays new employees $1,000 to quit!
• Permjot Valia wrote Businesses I Have Invested In which has some important lessons in it. I also found it interesting on a personal level as I had a chat with the founder of Blueback last year.
• Scott over at Self Made Minds wrote Economy in tatters, opportunity matters pointing out that turbulent economic times can be good for those seeking new business opportunities.
• Jordan McCollum wrote The Internet Doesn’t Influence People Who Don’t Use It pointing out the flaws in using consumer surveys as market research, deconstructing the Pew Internet and American life report.
• Liz Strauss was at CASS Business School answering the question “What is a blogs competition?”
• Alistair Croll posted Why Small Really Is Beautiful which looks at how some small companies have grown big without funding.
• Naomi Dunford wrote When Others Rain on Your Home Business Parade, which sadly is relevant to nearly all start-ups not just home businesses.
• Ben Jones create a list of The 41 Absolute Best Blogs about Entrepreneurship and Small Business I wished Business Opportunities and Ideas was on it and he kindly mentioned it in his follow-up Great Business Blogs that were Overlooked he also posted a great call to arms for all business bloggers – Attention All Small Business Bloggers: The Revolution has Begun!.
• Brad Feld posted a video link on Famous Failures worth watching if you ever feel you haven’t got what it takes as it reminds you that many success people were once “failures” and they managed to overcome it.
• Liz Fuller wrote How Rising Gas Prices Impact Your Business Blog which notes an interesting survey result: “1 in 3 surveyed said that the price of gas made them more inclined to shop online” – good news for online businesses.
