Chris Garrett just twittered about the Placebo Store. It’s apparently run by a mum called Jennifer who has had the idea to start a business selling Jennifer Obecalp Cherry Chewable Tablets, she says this about the business:
I am a mommy. It’s what I love. It’s my job to make owies go away. Whether it’s a kiss or a big hug, the magic happens immediately. This is the power of placebo. I have a baby girl and two sons. One of them always needs my comfort and the knowledge that I will make them feel better. I invented Obecalp when I realized that children might need a little more than a kiss to make it go away.
I can’t believe she’s the first person to see selling a placebo pill for kids as a business opportunity, but a quick search didn’t turn up much else. Then again as I recall my parents just used Tic Tacs.

This blog is about business opportunities and ideas that I spot, think of or hear about and think are useful and interesting. It is intended to provide ideas and inspriation for you to help you find the right business idea for you to then grow it into a successful business.

Don’t the pharmacy’s sell something like this? Else it is a fine niche market.
That’s just plain bizarre. Although thinking about it it is a good idea but as you say tic tacs do look a lot like little pills.
This seems like a good idea on the surface, but isn´t this just setting the next generation up to be massive consumers of drugs (I´m refering to the legal kind). Every time they hurt themselves or feel bad, they will reach for a pill and when mommy doesn´t have control of the ´pill´I doubt it will be placebos they are reaching for. Do we really want that for our kids?
@Phil: Of course it is. This is profiting from things that harm society. If you want to do that, you can make more money selling drugs or guns.
i think every parent thinks this to be a good business idea but if its so good why dont the big drug companys get in on the act? and if they dont want to how can i??
when the kids grow up the parents will tell them and they will see the funny side of it! im 16 when i was little i took paracetomol doesnt mean im a druggy now!!!
stupid!
i think its a good idea! The psychological effects it has on kids is great and will actually in the future prove that they dont nee d to take pills!
