Can you suggest some investment business ideas?

If by investment business you mean a business you can invest capital in and then walk away then I would suggest building up a portfolio of buy-to-let property. The falling property market has created some great investment opportunities and makes now an attractive time to get into property investing. You’ll need to invest some time upfront to properly identify where to buy and which properties are rentable, but once you’ve found the properties more or less every other function of a letting business can be outsourced.

Alternately if you mean ideas for businesses in which to invest the the answer is depends on whether you want to invest in publicly traded companies or private companies. When it comes to publicly traded companies I’m not able to offer any advice as I don’t personally directly invest in any my only exposure is through my pension fund. I doubt I will ever invest directly as I don’t see it offering me the returns I’d want in order to make it attractive.

As for investing in private companies it depends on what stage you’re happy to invest at, personally I’d rather be investing in my own or other people’s start-ups – it’s the stage of a business that I find most exciting and satisfying. In many cases it’s also where the biggest value is created. If this interests you then either look around this site for a business idea that excites you or think about becoming a business angel and let others present their business idea to you for investment.
