Start A Pet Sitting Business At Home

on May 7th, 2007

boxerPet sitting services provide a real alternative to boarding your pets at a kennel or cattery, or having to imposing upon friends and family. You take in a dog or cat and treat it as a member of your family, allowing it free run of your home. That way the owners know their pets are in a loving home as an alternate to a traditional kennel or cattery.

Typical fees are in the region of £30 per day typically more for puppies or kittens. It’s an ideal business for dog or cat lovers and is something that could be run alongside another small home business (though please only consider it if you can guarantee to provide sufficient care for the animals in your charge).

The downside is you’ll be allowing a number of strange pets into your home and will never be sure how well trained they are.

To get started you’ll need suitable bedding and space for the pets you’ll look after. You’ll need equipment for exercising the pets you’re looking after and you’ll need to make sure your home is a safe environment. I would suggest it’s not a good business if you have young kids at home.

To get started you’ll need to make sure your home is prepared. Ensure you have suitable insurance for both the business and the pets then get some leaflets printed and get them handed out/put up in the local pet shops. You’ll need to ensure you build a good reputation as word of mouth will be crucial to growing the business. Your point of differentiation is the loving home environment for the pet as opposed to spending the time in a kennel or cattery.
