They may be clichés but the sayings:

One man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure.

and:

Where there’s muck there’s brass.

make a very valid point. There are hundreds, if not thousands of business opportunities relating to scrap (be that household waste, commercial waste, industrial byproducts). With the increased emphasis that governments are placing on recycling and the resulting legislation there’s also a growing demand from industry and consumers for scrap related services. For example:

• Construction firms need to environmentally dispose of building waste.
• Garages need to environmentally dispose of used oil and other contaminated waste fluids.
• Local Government Councils need to reduce the level of waste going into landfill sites.
• With new incentives to scrap older cars, more scrap yards will be needed that can safely and environmentally break up and dispose of the vehicles.
• With rising prices for raw materials (metals in particular) there’s an increasingly good margin in the scrap metal business.
• As a result if regulation such as WIEE businesses need a complaint way to dispose of their old electrical equipment.
